The scoreline was not a true reflection of Ipswich’s performance, with Gary O’Neil’s team demonstrating much energy and spirit throughout the match. Shaw’s performances this season have come under heavy scrutiny, especially with the Red Devils looking to sign a new left-back before transfer deadline day on Tuesday, And the England international took full responsibility for the opener, telling Sky Sports: ‘A really important win. We knew how important it was to win today. ‘I am a bit disappointed and angry with myself for the first goal. Extremely happy with the team in the second half, it was really good. It always helps when you have someone like Bruno in your team, he can score and create. ‘Us as Manchester United should be expected to win here. The 31-year-old is the only natural left-back at Old Trafford and there is fear United will not sign another this summer. ‘I think we’ve done some fantastic business and we’ve done it very well with the money we’ve spent,’ Carrick told BBC Sport post-match. ‘We’re making the most of the situation that we have.
