'A lot more to achieve' - Isidor signs new deal until 2030

Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor says "there is still a lot more to achieve here" after signing a new deal to keep him at the club until 2030. Isidor joined the Black Cats initially on loan from Zenit St Petersburg in August 2024 before making the deal permanent in February 2025. The 26-year-old has scored 19 goals in 83 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland, including six in the Premier League last season as Regis Le Bris's side finished seventh and achieved Europa League qualification.

After an emphatic return to the Premier League last season, Sunderland were brought back down to earth on the opening day of the season with a 2-1 defeat at newly promoted Ipswich Town. It was a performance which was dampened by two goals which were "avoidable" for Regis le Bris' side, according to ex-Black Cats forward Martin Smith, who told BBC Radio Newcastle it was Sunderland's "sloppy" passes that ultimately gifted the hosts victory. As well as their possession frailties, Smith believes the Black Cats are in need of a "fox in the box" to help convert more chances.
