Manchester United are putting padding around the bricks that go around the Old Trafford pitch to help protect players. United have completely dug up the surface this summer for the first time in 14 years. When the new pitch is laid it will be slightly bigger than before so it does not immediately become a synthetic surface as has been the case before.
