New manager Xabi Alonso visited Chelsea's training ground earlier this week with his coaching staff to familiarise himself with the club's set-up. Alonso, 44, will formally join Chelsea on 1 July but visited the base in Cobham to better understand the environment so he can hit the ground running when he begins his role.
There needs to be a big turnover of players to progress next season and good luck to Alonso. The appointment of Alonso is merely the start of what needs to be a major review and reset. Chelsea should be in Europe but this season we must admit they just didn't deserve it.
Kevin: I'd rather miss Europe for the year and give Alonso the chance to bed his team and style down. One game a week hasn't done Manchester United any harm and I hope we could do same. Graham: As much as it is important financially for the club to have European football next season, players are not machines and they need a proper rest.
