Jackson didn't do overly well at Bayern, where he didn't play much. Delap bombed at Chelsea where he scored once in the league. Yet Chelsea have moved both players on at significant profit.

Al-Hilal’s signing from Villa is thrown straight into big game against Al-Ahli and faces the highest of expectationsOllie Watkins and Ivan Toney spent 33 minutes on the pitch together a few weeks ago in Miami as England beat France 6-4 in a game for third place at the World Cup. They will be reunited on Tuesday in Riyadh for Al-Hilal v Al-Ahli, the first big clash between title hopefuls in the Saudi Pro League season.Aston Villa fans will be hoping that, starting against Arsenal on Monday, Nicolas Jackson can quickly help them forget their departed talisman. That’s what Toney did at Brentford back in 2020 when he replaced Watkins. It may not only be supporters in the West Midlands and west London who will be curious to see how their alumni get on in west Asia. England’s heach coach, Thomas Tuchel, will surely tune in (or even turn up?) to get a look at the two forwards battling to become the clear understudy to Harry Kane as a new international cycle starts. On Sunday, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez joined Chelsea from Aston Villa, completing the eighth deal between the clubs in the past four years. Martinez's move to Stamford Bridge comes after Nicolas Jackson's transfer the other way last week.

Aston Villa could make another significant addition to their attack before the transfer deadline, with Crystal Palace reportedly willing to consider an improved £25 million offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta. The name Omari Kellyman probably means relatively little to most Premier League fans yet the young attacking midfielder is a crucial figure in relations between two of its most prominent clubs.
Martínez and Jackson latest duo to move between clubsGoretzka and Suzuki could make debuts against ArsenalUnai Emery has said Aston Villa and Chelsea are enemies rather than friends, insisting the clubs want to “kill” each other despite regularly doing business in recent years.Emiliano Martínez became the latest player to move between the teams, after Chelsea paid £117m to sign Morgan Rogers from Villa this summer. Defender Louis Jackson has joined St Mirren from Manchester United on a two-year deal, with the option of another year. At senior club level, he featured eight times on loan at Solihull Moors last season, scoring once. "After I spoke to the manager, he told me about his philosophy and the direction that the club's going now in terms of trying to develop young players and giving us the opportunities, which I've seen him do since the start of the season," Jackson said of St Mirren boss Craig McLeish.
Desailly wants another signing up front (Picture: Catherine Steenkeste/Getty Images) Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has urged the club to take another run at signing Victor Osimhen before the summer transfer window closes. Joao Pedro picked up from where he left off last season with a superb display leading the Blues attack against Fulham, getting on the score sheet in a 3-2 win in their opening game of the campaign on Monday. Danny Welbeck has also been brought in to provide another option up top with Liam Delap leaving the club after just one season to join Nottingham Forest. Nicolas Jackson meanwhile has joined Aston Villa in a £65million deal while RB Leipzig are in talks to sign Marc Guiu. Chelsea were close to signing Osimhen two summers ago when he was still at Napoli only for the move to fall apart at the last minute. He instead joined Galatasaray where he has spent the last two seasons. Arsenal have explored a move for the Nigeria international in recent weeks with the Gunners still eager to recruit another centre forward. The Nigeria international is reportedly still open to a move to the Premier League with legend Desailly believing Chelsea still ‘need that kind of player.’ Arsenal had talks over a move for Osimhen this month (Picture: Ahmad Mora/Getty Images) ‘Osimhen, absolutely. He brings spirit and respect, strong respect from opponents and from his teammates,’ Desailly told Metro via SportsCasting. ‘He can be a bit unpredictable sometimes, but you need that kind of player who can justify his stature and his behaviour through performance, but also through a bit of controversy. He’s strong, and he can bring that spirit to Chelsea. ‘As for Jackson, he’s gone to Aston Villa now. Honestly, I would have brought in a proper number-nine type striker. The problem is there aren’t many strikers out there who could help Chelsea in the long run.’ Chelsea return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they host Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
