Palmer finished his first season at Chelsea with 27 goals and 15 assists, more goal involvements than any other player in the Premier League, and still managed ten goals last season despite persistent injury troubles, Palmer was a surprise omission from Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad this summer, but the time off has allowed the midfielder to hit the ground running, with two goals and an assist in Xabi Alonso’s first two league matches. Xabi Alonso’s side continued their perfect start under their new boss, but were made to sweat in an entertaining clash at Stamford Bridge. Joao Pedro, who scored on the opening weekend against Fulham, started against his former side Brighton and was the subject of jeers from the away fans right from the start of the encounter. Those jeers reached their peak when the Brazilian wasted a golden opportunity early in the first half, firing wide of the mark from only yards out with nobody around him.
