Marcus Rashford could make his Man Utd comeback today (Photo Getty) Marcus Rashford is expected to make his first appearance for Manchester United in over 18 months when they play AC Milan in their final pre-season friendly today. Rashford’s career at Old Trafford appeared to be over after he was axed from the first-team by Ruben Amorim in December 2025, before being shipped off on loan to Aston Villa and Barcelona. Surprisingly, the Spanish champions chose not to trigger the buy-out option in his contract and with no other top European club looking to sign him, the forward has returned to his boyhood club. Amorim’s replacement Michael Carrick has decided to give the England international a second chance and barring any late drama in the transfer window, he will be playing in Manchester again this season. Get the latest transfer news every morning Sign up to our daily football newsletter for personalised updates on who your team is trying to sign and who won't be around next season. Rashford has only just returned to training after helping the Three Lions finish third at the World Cup and, ironically, his first game back for United will be against a side managed by Amorim. Despite being by far the best Carrington academy graduate of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, many at the time approved of the decision to let Rashford go amid concerns over his form and attitude off the pitch. Such concerns do not exist anymore it seems, as the Daily Mail report that the 29-year-old’s return has been ‘extremely well received’ by the rest of the Red Devils squad. Moreover, £35million summer signing Youri Tielemans has publicly expressed his delight with Rashford after playing alongside him during the loan spell at Aston Villa last year. ‘He’s got amazing qualities. And I mean, his touch, his acceleration, his finishing, you know, his qualities on the ball. But then I think what surprised me most with him was his commitment,’ the midfielder told Rio Ferdinand Presents. And you see the player coming in and it’s completely opposite from what you hear. ‘He was committed. He was doing the work. He was positive with everyone. You know, he was just a normal guy, you know. ‘And then he brings his qualities to the team and he just plays. And you can see in that PSG double leg how good he was and how he added at the time to the team. ‘And yeah, we [Villa] nearly got over the line against PSG and then won it. So, yeah, we were very happy with him.’ It has been confirmed Rashford will wear No.14 after his prized No.10 shirt was handed to Matheus Cunha last summer. Following the Milan friendly, United kick-off their season with a trip to newly promoted Hull City next Saturday. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Chelsea striker Liam Delap (Picture: Getty) Liam Delap is keen to remain in the Premier League after Como reportedly made an approach to sign the Chelsea striker. Chelsea beat a host of rivals, most notably Manchester United, to sign Delap in a £30million deal from Ipswich Town last summer. Much was expected of the young Englishman after a promising first season in the English top flight with Ipswich, but Delap struggled to kick on in his maiden season at Stamford Bridge. In a campaign affected by injury and suspension, Delap only scored two goals in 41 appearances and was forced to play backup to fellow summer signing Joao Pedro. And Delap appears to have fallen further down the pecking order this summer after the arrival of Emmanuel Emegha and Danny Welbeck as well as the return of Nicolas Jackson from his loan spell at Bayern Munich. Chelsea are said to value Delap at £40m, with a host of Premier League clubs said to be interested in signing the 23-year-old. However, there is also interest from abroad, with Como making an approach to sign Delap in recent days. Liam Delap is wanted by Italian side Como (Picture: Getty) The Serie A side are keen on a loan move for the striker as Cesc Fabregas looks to bolster his options ahead of the new season. But talkSPORT reports that Delap is keen to stay in the Premier League and wait for offers from English top-flight clubs. Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United have all previously been credited with interest in the former Ipswich striker. Chelsea are also willing to sell Nicolas Jackson before the end of the window (Picture: Getty) Delap might not be the only striker heading for the exit this summer at Chelsea, with the club also open to offers for Jackson. Chelsea are said to value Jackson at £65m, with Aston Villa and Newcastle United both said to have made approaches for the Senegalese international. Speaking earlier in the pre-season when asked about Jackson’s future, new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso said: ‘Yes, Nico is a great player. ‘He’s a threat to play against any defence, so we want to have players that can compete, and Nico for sure is one of them. ‘We need to go day by day checking options, but we are happy that Nico is with us.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page. Rashford in line to make his first appearance for United since December 2024 (Picture: Niall Carson/PA Wire) Manchester United take on AC Milan in their final pre-season match this afternoon. After beating Leeds on penalties in Dublin on Wednesday, they have made the trip over to Poland to take on a team manager by the man Michael Carrick replaced in January in Ruben Amorim. It could be an awkward reunion for the Portuguese head coach and Kobbie Mainoo, the player who he froze out of the first-team a year ago. Mainoo failed to start a single Premier League match under Amorim during the first-half of last season but was immediately reinstated by Carrick following his appointment in January, playing a key role in United’s third place finish. Get the latest transfer news every morning Sign up to our daily football newsletter for personalised updates on who your team is trying to sign and who won't be around next season. Marcus Rashford is another who found himself out of favour during Amorim’s reign. The forward left Manchester to join Aston Villa on loan just two months after Amorim’s arrival after repeatedly questioning his application in training. Amorim at one point said he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital than Rashford, who he believed was ‘not giving his maximum.’ Rashford is in line to make his first appearances for the club since December 2024 and now appears set to remain part of the squad heading into the new season. He and Mainoo are likely to get their first minutes of pre-season and will undoubtedly have a point to prove even in a friendly environment. Lisandro Martinez is also likely to get his first pre-season minutes after his World Cup campaign with Argentina. Mason Mount, who shone earlier in the summer, was not included in the squad after coming off injured in the draw with Paris Saint-Germain while Benjamin Sesko will also not be involved. The striker has missed every pre-season game, still recovering from a shin injury he suffered last season. Man Utd vs AC Milan kick-off time and TV channel Man Utd vs AC Milan kicks off at the Tarczynski Arena at 3:45pm BST this afternoon (Saturday 15 August). The match will be broadcast live on MUTV.
