And with that in mind, Smith believes the club should not have been so hasty to let go of Leandro Trossard, who joined Besiktas for a measly £17m fee earlier in the summer. ‘Time will tell, but Trossard, on paper, is more of a loss,’ Smith told Metro via BestBettingSites.co.uk. I think they’ll be feeling really bullish about things, City.’ Chelsea are another team being talked up as potential title challengers for Arsenal, but Smith can’t see Xabi Alonso’s side staying the course despite the impressive late signing of Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. ‘It makes them better by some margin, I would say, not only what he can give them in terms of commanding his box, but the confidence it will give his defenders and team in general,’ he said. ‘He is a world-class keeper, and he’s a big personality. As for a title challenge, I do see them just being off it at the moment. ‘I might be proved wrong. Who can say what’s going to happen with injuries over the course of the season? ‘If they keep Palmer, Rogers and João Pedro together, it gives them a great chance. Barcola, a double Champions League winner with Paris Saint-Germain, completed his £123million move to Anfield in the final days of the summer window, signing a five-year contract. Arsenal explored a move for the France international earlier in the window but instead focused on other targets with Liverpool given a relatively free run at signing the 24-year-old winger. The Gunners have looked at bringing in an established left winger for the last two summers, exploring moves for the likes or Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon last year with Vinicius Jr emerging as a top target this year. While Arsenal were said to be confident of signing the Brazilian superstar, Vinicius instead signed a new contract with Real Madrid. He comes in from a brilliant PSG side and he’s played with players who are on that level. Now he’s coming into a Liverpool side where he is that superstar and will bring them [his teammates] up there. ‘That’s what we needed. Whether you think Morgan Rogers could have done that, I would have been happy with that.
