United want to grow homegrown talent rather than spendSkinner departs by mutual consent after five yearsMarc Skinner has left his role as Manchester United’s head coach by mutual consent after five years, partly because of the club’s transfer strategy. The 43-year-old is understood to have initiated the discussions that led to his departure, having felt it was the right time to leave the club. United are focusing on developing young players, rather than enter into bidding wars with some of the Women’s Super League’s bigger spenders. The former Birmingham and Orlando head coach led Manchester United to three consecutive Women’s FA Cup finals between 2023 and 2025, winning one – and the club’s first major women’s trophy – in 2024 at Wembley with a 4-0 victory over . His side also reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League in 2025-26, as well as the League Cup final. Continue reading...
Cologne are favourites to sign Mikey Moore on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, with talks at an advanced stage amid interest from several clubs for the 18-year-old winger who spent last season with Rangers. Hull City are set to beat Rangers and Cardiff City to sign 20-year-old midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl from Tromso.
Today’s rumours are at a pintxo barJack Grealish needs a route out of Manchester City and could be offered one by Atlético Madrid. Everton, where he spent last season on loan, and first club Aston Villa are also lurking as the winger recovers from injury. The 30-year-old is absent from City’s pre-season tour and his future at the Etihad Stadium does not have a positive outlook, even after Enzo Maresca replaced Pep Guardiola.Tottenham’s attempts to add some more attacking power has caused them to enquire about Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen and Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, not that either would come cheaply. One imminent outgoing is the youngster Mikey Moore who is closing on a loan move to Cologne. Continue reading...

The World Cup gave MLS unprecedented momentum. Keeping it will depend less on signing aging icons than convincing America’s best young players to stay“Thanks World, we’ll take it from here,” is Major League Soccer’s message to the American public. Yet two moves in the last week were emblematic of the issues the league faces in taking on the mantle of North America’s hosting of the game’s grandest stage.A rising, under-the-radar homegrown player left for Europe, and a veteran with immense pedigree arrived, likely to close out his career. Sebastian Berhalter’s swapped title-chasing Vancouver Whitecaps for Middlesbrough of the EFL Championship. Free agent Brazil legend Casemiro traded Manchester’s Old Trafford for Nu Stadium in Miami. Sign up now! Sign up now! Sign up now? Sign up now!You have to hand it to Gianni Infantino, his timing was impeccable. After the relative on-field success of the Geopolitics World Cup, Fifa’s omnipresent overlord knew he had to strike while the iron was hot. There would be a small gap in the news cycle. Domestic seasons around the world would be starting soon and there is always transfer news to dominate column inches and air time. But Gianni would not be denied. It was time to announce his grand plan. People like the World Cup? Great! Then why not sell stakes in the World Cup to rich private investors and make Fifa some more cash – genius! However, he managed to get his timing all wrong, allowing the brave boys from Uefa and Concacaf to take action, the former threatening to boycott all Fifa competitions until the plans are ditched.I have no problem with Gianni Infantino seeking to sell the commercial rights for the next World Cup finals for $20bn or more. This is the biggest sporting competition and deserves to raise as much revenue as possible from sponsors. That he can offer all the member countries upwards of $30m each would be a godsend for many smaller associations. What I do expect for the good of the game and for spectators of all ages is that the broadcasting of all matches remains free to air and doesn’t end up behind expensive paywalls. It’s bad enough in the UK that the Premier League, Football League, Prem Rugby and all first-class cricket matches are now behind paywalls and that access to actual matches is priced well beyond the average spectator’s ability to pay. How are fans, particularly those who are young and/or from poorer households, going to be able to afford to see matches? Fifa, Uefa and the FA have a duty to bring their sport to the widest audience possible at reasonable entrance prices at stadiums or for free on television. Rant over” – Tim Leech.Amid all the speculation over the demise of Eddie Howe at Newcastle (yesterday’s Football Daily), surely one look at that new kit would’ve been enough to see off anyone with a modicum of taste. He departs with dignity intact” – Steve Bennett. Continue reading...
European football's governing body UEFA said on Thursday it would boycott the World Cup if FIFA pressed ahead with its private investor plan. "No UEFA national teams will participate in any FIFA competition for so long as these proposals remain alive, unless this proposal has been abandoned in its entirety and binding assurances have been given that FIFA will never again open its governance or competitions to private ownership," UEFA said in a statement. FRANCE 24's James Vasina reports.
