Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso (Picture: Getty) Chelsea have been urged to consider a shock deal to sign ‘outstanding’ goalkeeper Andre Onana from Manchester United. New boss Xabi Alonso has overseen another Chelsea spending spree this summer, with the Blues splashing out over £300m on over ten new signings. Despite the huge spending, Chelsea have resisted the urge to bring a new goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge despite Robert Sanchez’s issues and Filip Jorgensen’s departure. Chelsea were heavily linked with signing a new shot-stopper last summer but appear ready to go into the new Premier League season with Sanchez as Alonso’s No. 1. Get the latest transfer news every morning Sign up to our daily football newsletter for personalised updates on who your team is trying to sign and who won't be around next season. But ex-Manchester United defender Quinton Fortune has suggested Chelsea should enter the race for unwanted Old Trafford goalkeeper Onana. United sent Onana on loan to Trabzonspor last season after signing Senne Lammens, who impressed throughout the campaign. The Red Devils are open to offers for Onana but a sale is proving tricky due to the goalkeeper’s significant wages and his desire to force his way back into the team. Man Utd’s Andre Onana spent last season at Trabzonspor (Picture: Getty) That appears unlikely given Lammens’ development, however, and Fortune believes Onana could emerge as a target for Premier League rivals Chelsea, Newcastle United and Aston Villa. ‘Andre Onana could be an asset to Chelsea, Newcastle United or Aston Villa in the Premier League,’ Fortune told Premier Bet. ‘You can see the quality for playing out from the back as many managers now want with their style of football, he can be your starting point. Manchester United No. 1 Senne Lammens (Picture: Getty) ‘When you’ve got a goalkeeper like Onana who can ping a ball 50, 60 yards to your striker or midfielder and break the lines with his passes, that can make a huge difference, and he’s one of the best at it. ‘He just needs to find his confidence again now because when a goalkeeper makes a mistake unfortunately the whole world sees it. ‘I hope he can get back to his best because when you need a goalkeeper to play out from the back, he can be outstanding.’ Robert Sanchez has struggled at Chelsea (Picture: Getty) Fortune also says he ‘wishes’ Manchester United had beaten Chelsea to a summer deal for Danny Welbeck. Welbeck completed a somewhat surprising move from Brighton to Stamford Bridge last month but Fortune has praised Chelsea’s transfer decision. ‘Xabi Alonso made some good signings for Chelsea this summer but I wish we could have seen Danny Welbeck return to Manchester United,’ the former Premier League winner added. ‘By signing Welbeck and Jordan Henderson he wants to bring in some leaders to set good examples which you need at a club like Chelsea, especially after the experience Alonso had at Real Madrid. ‘He’s looked at the Chelsea dressing room, felt that it was lacking something, and brought in the players with the right personalities and experience to make a difference in Henderson and Welbeck. ‘They are not only top, top players but great professionals too.’ Chelsea face west London rivals Fulham in their Premier League opener on August 24 and will be desperate to improve on last season’s 10th-place finish. Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Crystal Palace have all made an approach to sign Lamine Camara from Monaco (Getty) Chelsea have joined the race with Liverpool and Manchester United to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to reports in France. Camara has spent two seasons with Monaco after joining in a £12.8 million deal from Metz two years ago. The 22-year-old has also made 49 appearances for Senegal and played in four games at the World Cup this summer. This week, Crystal Palace have seen their offer in excess of £35m for Camara rejected by Monaco, who are trying to keep the defensive midfielder for at least another season. Get the latest transfer news every morning Sign up to our daily football newsletter for personalised updates on who your team is trying to sign and who won't be around next season. But according to FootMercato, Monaco’s stance is likely to be tested even further as Chelsea are the latest club to have made an approach after Palace, Manchester United and Liverpool. The report claims that Monaco are holding out for a €50m (£42.7m) transfer fee for the Senegal international. Lamine Camara made four appearances for Senegal at the World Cup this summer (Getty) Monaco are also in a strong negotiating position as Camara still has three years remaining on his contract with the Ligue 1 side. Speaking after his side’s 3-2 win against Liverpool at Anfield last Sunday, Monaco head coach Filipe Luis made it clear that he wants Camara to stay at the club. ‘We want to build a truly competitive team. I’m very selfish and I want to keep all the players. I don’t want anyone to leave,’ Luis said. ‘But I know that clubs have to make sales, which we have done. I hope we can keep him. He’s probably one of the best midfielders in the world. ‘I don’t want to say too much, because I know that many clubs are interested in him. We all want him to stay. He’s really important to me. He’s very gifted with the ball at his feet, he covers a lot of ground. He’s an exceptional player. I’m really pleased with him. ‘I have every hope that he stays. I think he’s happy in Monaco. If he stays, he’ll be able to work even harder. Because he’s going to play, as I said, a key role in my system of play.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page. Cesc Fabregas believes Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal players will always ‘stick to the plan’ Cesc Fabregas has praised Arsenal’s hierarchy for showing ‘patience’ towards Mikel Arteta and believes the players are fully behind the manager ahead of their Premier League title defence. Fabregas returned to his former club for a friendly on Wednesday night as his Como side held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium before the Gunners won a penalty shootout. Arsenal will now play Manchester City in the Community Shield this Sunday before beginning the defence of their Premier League title at home to Coventry City on August 21. Fabregas, who made 303 appearances during his time at Arsenal, praised his former club after Como’s friendly at the Emirates and claimed that the Italian club are trying to copy certain traits shown by the Gunners in recent years. Cesc Fabregas returned to Arsenal on Wednesday for Como’s 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium (Getty) ‘Because what you see in football every day, what Arsenal did, especially in the difficult moments, it doesn’t exist. I told Edu, I told Andrea (Berta) when I came last year to a Champions League game, I said congratulations to the whole club for the patience, for sticking together, for sticking to the plan when for three years in a row, correct me if I’m wrong, finished eighth, eighth, eighth, fourth year nearly Champions League, it was a big disappointment, Tottenham came, you finish fifth, but you keep going because you have a plan, because you have an objective, because you have progression, you keep going forward. ‘We lack this in football today. You lose three games, change the coach, he was playing one style, now you play another, at the end of the day I don’t believe in this a lot. ‘I’m very lucky I’m in a project, of course with much lower level, the history, everything, but we’re trying to look at the stability Arsenal had, the values, the culture that they are bringing. ‘I think Mikel has done a tremendous job. So I can only wish them the best, really. Because most of the group, these guys now you talk to them, I don’t know… they’re good guys, they want to play good football, they are respectful, you can see how they stick to the plan all the time. Really, I’m super happy to come back here and smell this feeling.’ For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
