The Argentina international has been considering a move away from Stamford Bridge with doubts over long-term future first emerging back in March. Former Chelsea boss Maresca, who replaced Pep Guardiola in the City hotseat this summer, is thought to be keen on a reunion with his former midfielder. Chelsea have set a deadline of 5pm (BST) this evening for offers to be tabled, standing firm on their £120million valuation. But speaking ahead of City’s Community Shield showdown with Arsenal on Sunday, Maresca said he was not expecting anything to materialise before that deadline. ‘Not today to be honest,’ Maresca told a press conference. ‘I don’t think we are going to do something today.’ Fernandez first raised the possibility of a move away from Chelsea in March during the final weeks of Liam Rosenior’s brief reign in charge. City appears to be the midfielder’s only possible destination at this point but it remains to be seen whether they will meet Chelsea’s asking price. Chelsea are ready to reintegrate Fernandez into the squad should no move materialise. Speaking last month, Xabi Alonso made it clear that he wants Fernandez to remain at Chelsea. ‘Yes we have spoken. But as you can imagine what we have spoken remains private,’ Alonso said. Comment now Comments Add Metro as a Preferred Source on Google Add as preferred source
