Amit Bhatia, the new Liverpool vice-chairman, is set to attend the Reds' first home game of the season at Anfield on Saturday, when Andoni Iraola's side take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Bhatia, who stepped down as a co-owner and director at QPR last month after 18 years at the club, leads 1892 Holdings - a consortium that has bought around 38 per cent of Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) for just over £2bn.
Having a defensive midfielder stationed accordingly would, in all likelihood, have nullified the threat for Newcastle's goals on Sunday.. Liverpool have not had an out-and-out number six since Fabinho, who left in 2023, and as it stands Iraola's preference is a two-man pivot in midfield with Florian Wirtz playing as a number 10. Both of those two midfielders, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, were in the Newcastle box when Liverpool lost possession before Anthony Elanga's opener.

The 31-year-old, currently without a club following the termination of his Chelsea contract and a failed spell at Feyenoord, crashed his Lamborghini on the M3 back in May. Sterling also faces charges of possessing laughing gas and failing to provide a specimen following his arrest. Dangerous driving carries a maximum two-year prison sentence if found guilty. A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3. ‘Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen. ‘The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May, 2026. A van is forced to brake suddenly to avoid crashing into the Lamborghini, which then veers between two lanes for several seconds. Sterling appeared to have a balloon in his hand during the clip. Sterling’s brush with the law is the latest sad chapter in a career that has been in decline ever since he left Manchester City nearly four years ago After establishing himself as a key cog in Manchester City’s trophy winning machine under Pep Guardiola, the winger lost his way at Chelsea amid the chaos and upheaval at Stamford Bridge. A loan move to Arsenal last season, where it had been hoped he could rebuild his career working for Mikel Arteta, who had been a key part of the coaching team during the best period of Sterling’s career at City, turned into a disaster. Sterling managed just five Premier League starts during his time with the Gunners, scored just one goal in all competitions and failed to cement a place in a forward line that had been decimated by injuries. At halftime during Al Nassr's match against Al Ettifaq, Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted by manager Ange Postecoglou, and the coach has since explained the tactical reasoning behind the unexpected move. Al Nassr completed a thrilling comeback win against Al Ettifaq. However, Cristiano Ronaldo was not on the pitch to experience it, as the Portuguese star was substituted at halftime by manager Ange Postecoglou. The first half against Al Ettifaq was a nightmare for Al Nassr, as they trailed 2-0 on the road after goalkeeper Bento was sent off with a straight red card in the 12th minute. Postecoglou was forced to adjust his strategy, and surprisingly, Ronaldo was the one sacrificed in the tactical scheme. At halftime, Ronaldo was replaced by midfielder Abdullah Al-Khaibari. After the match, Postecoglou explained the reasoning behind the bold decision. “When I made the substitutions, including taking Ronaldo off, I believed the players coming on could make an impact,” Postecoglou explained. “I came here to help the players, so as I said, I’m proud of them because every substitute made a positive contribution.” Al Nassr fulfill an epic comeback win Trailing 2-0, Al Nassr rallied in the second half to secure a sensational 3-2 victory over Al Ettifaq. While many expected Ronaldo to be the central hero of such a win, his teammates stepped up to carry Al Nassr over the line. Sadio Mane scored a crucial second-half brace—assisted twice by Joao Felix—to guide Al Nassr to their third consecutive victory of the 2026–27 Saudi Pro League season. Even without Ronaldo on the pitch, Al Nassr proved they possess the squad depth to remain dominant under challenging circumstances. They have scored 10 goals in their opening fixtures while allowing just two, demonstrating an explosive offense and resilient tactical structure. Al Nassr need Bento back soon In the 12th minute of the match, Bento was shown a straight red card after halting an Al Ettifaq goal-scoring opportunity outside the box. Following the ejection, Al Nassr conceded two opening-half goals—their only goals allowed so far this season—underscoring how important Bento’s presence is to Postecoglou’s defensive blueprint.
