An international firm has invested $30 million in the Northern Super League. The six-team Canadian women's pro soccer league is in its second season with clubs in Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax, Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.
Former Celtic, Hearts and Scotland player Mike Galloway has died at the age of 60. Galloway joined Hearts from Halifax Town for £60,000 in 1987 and went on to make 86 appearances for the Tynecastle club, scoring 22 goals. Comfortable in defence or midfield, Galloway helped Hearts to a runners-up finish in the top flight in 1987-88.
The Vancouver Rise are no longer winless. Co-captain Quinn, a Canadian national team star, scored on a penalty in the 59th minute to give the visiting Rise a 2-1 Northern Super League victory over the Halifax Tides on Monday.
