Al-Hilal have seen a second offer rejected (Picture: Ahmad Mora/Getty Images) Galatasaray have turned down a staggering offer from Saudi Arabia for Arsenal transfer target Victor Osimhen. The Gunners are intent on making further additions to their title-winning squad before the summer transfer window closes. Despite efforts from Mikel Arteta, Arsenal look set to miss out on Julian Alvarez who remains determined to join Barcelona if he is to leave Atletico Madrid this summer. Last week, Osimhen emerged as another option on Arsenal’s radar. The Nigeria international has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, admired by Manchester United over the years having come close to joining Chelsea in 2024. The 27-year-old has just begun his third season in Turkey with Arsenal enquiring into his availability during talks with Galatasaray over possible moves for Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri. Arsenal’s interest is not thought to have progressed any further at this stage with Saudi side Al-Hilal making the biggest move for the striker so far. The Saudi side have already made a verbal offer of €130million (£112m), ready to pay Osimhen an astronomical €50m (£42.7m) a year. Galatasaray responded by telling Al-Hilal they have no intention of selling their prized asset, but the Saudi side remain undeterred. Arsenal held talks over a move last week (Picture: Seskim Photo/MB Media/Getty Images) According to Türkiye Gazetesi, Al-Hilal have now increased their offer to a huge €150m (£128m). Gala president Dursan Ozebek however has ‘categorically rejected’ the offer, once again informing the Saudi club they are not interested in selling. The report adds that Osimhen has indicated money is not a priority for him when it comes to deciding his future. Reports elsewhere in Turkey have suggested Osimhen would be open to a move to Arsenal. Ex-Premier League manager Sam Allardyce (Picture: YouTube) Sam Allardyce expects Arsenal to fail to retain the Premier League trophy this season despite a statement win over Manchester City in the Community Shield. Mikel Arteta’s side underlined their status as Premier League title favourites with a dominant 3-0 win over Man City in the traditional curtain-raiser for the new season. The Gunners clinched their first Premier League title since 2004 last season while they were a penalty shootout away from winning the Champions League for the first time. Arsenal look by far the most settled team at the top-end of the Premier League, with many of their potential title rivals under new management going into the 2026-27 campaign. Enzo Maresca has replaced legendary Pep Guardiola at Man City, Andoni Iraola has taken over from Liverpool title-winner Arne Slot and Xabi Alonso is preparing for his first season at Chelsea. The stability at Arsenal and uncertainty at other clubs has made Arsenal short favourites with the bookmakers to retain the Premier League trophy. But Allardyce believes Arsenal will miss out on back-to-back league titles and has instead tipped Manchester City to regain their status as Premier League champions. Mikel Arteta holding the Premier League trophy (Picture: Getty) Asked to reveal his Premier League title prediction on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce said: ‘Man City. I think Enzo Maresca is going to have a great first season. If he doesn’t he will be out.’ Reacting to Allardyce’s surprising prediction, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson said: ‘I wasn’t expecting that, it’s flabbergasting. ‘I’m going with Arsenal. I just think Arsenal because they’re more settled than the other possible title rivals.’ New Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca (Picture: PA) Meanwhile, Allardyce revealed why he is ‘worried’ about Manchester United and Michael Carrick, who he wants to succeed at Old Trafford. ‘I’m still worried about Manchester United’, the former Premier League and England manager added. ‘Everyone will be looking to see if Michael Carrick can keep it up because he overachieved last year. ‘There’s a massive downside to that because you build expectations. They absolutely can’t be outside the top-four. Arsenal thumped Man City in the Community Shield (Picture: Getty) ‘I want Michael Carrick to succeed just to show everyone you can be a failure and turn into a massive success. ‘What he did last season was force the Man United board to give him the job based on what he did on and off the field. They will be steady and get mid to late 80s and I don’t think anyone can beat that. ‘I think there’s more question marks over this season than ever before, which is why I
Jose Mourinho has returned as head coach of Real Madrid, prompting former FC Barcelona captain Carles Puyol to claim that Mourinho's arrival could make Real Madrid a stronger opponent for the Blaugranas in the title race. The summer brought significant movement for Real Madrid, starting with the appointment of Jose Mourinho as head coach—a decision that Carles Puyol believes will present a major test for Barcelona in the upcoming season. During a media conference hosted by LALIGA and ESPN, Carles Puyol was asked by Martin O’Donnell of Bolavip about Mourinho’s arrival at Real Madrid and its potential impact on Barcelona. “Well, we’re talking about a great manager,” Puyol told Bolavip about Mourinho’s arrival to Real Madrid and how can he turn things around for the club. “I met him at Barcelona when I was young and coming through the academy, and when I made it to the first team, we could already see that he knew a lot about football. “Then he went to other clubs, built a good résumé, and eventually arrived at Real Madrid, where Real Madrid had a very good team. We were going through a very strong period, and I remember a great rivalry and many individual battles. The Barça-Madrid rivalry is huge, but in those years, on top of that, it was Guardiola against Mourinho, Messi against Cristiano, and two great, great teams. “So we’ll see how he does now. I still think Barcelona have a very good team and will be able to have a good season, but it’s clear that one of their biggest rivals is Real Madrid, and with Mourinho they could be even stronger.” The Englishman, who made over 150 appearances for Los Blancos, weighed in on Mourinho’s return, highlighting the immediate pressure on the coach and squad to deliver trophies. “He needs to win,” McManaman responded to Bolavip about the expectations on Mourinho. “It’s simple as that. He needs to beat Barcelona, he needs to win the league. I don’t necessarily think he needs to win the Champions League, but he needs to finish above Barcelona. “He’s been brought in because the last two years have been disappointing. So he needs just to get the best out of the players, but more importantly, it’s to finish above Barcelona. He has to do it instantly. Real Madrid can’t go three years without winning anything. So Jose has to hit the ground running and he has to be successful straight away. That’s what he’s been brought in for.” McManaman emphasized the high expectations associated with managing Real Madrid, recognized as one of the most demanding seats in world soccer. However, key summer acquisitions—including record signing Yan Diomandé—have fueled belief that Mourinho’s second tenure can meet those expectations.
Nottingham Forest supporter Tony O'Dowd says Coventry City can expect new signing Taiwo Awoniyi to be a "phenomenal in-form player" and an "absolute live wire". The 29-year-old striker, who became Forest's record signing when he joined from Union Berlin in June 2022, has completed a £9m move to the CBS Arena. You've got a man there that can do a job for you in the Premier League.
Yan Diomande is the most expensive signing in Real Madrid history, but his career trajectory could have been drastically different if not for the developmental guidance of coach Todd Eason at Florida's DME Academy. A lot can change in one year, just ask Yan Diomande. Today, he’s the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season and a fully capped Ivory Coast international winger. But at the start of last season, nobody knew who he even was. Well, almost nobody. Todd Eason knew that Diomande was going to be special when he first laid eyes on him in 2022. Born in Abidjan, Diomande grew up in poverty and grew accustomed to sharing a roof with 25 other people and playing soccer either barefoot or with plastic sandals. And with his father abandoning the house and moving to France when he was still a youngster, Diomande always knew that he’d be tasked with leading his family out of poverty. It’s why, at nine years old, he joined the Académie Inter Foot Sud Comoé, where he finally secured a pair of boots and started plying his trade near the Ghana-Ivory Coast border. But he still struggled with destitute conditions and once had to steal potatoes from a shop alongside 19 other kids to avoid going hungry. He always knew that, in order to get a top-class academic and soccer education, he’d need to leave Africa. Todd Eason saw Diomande’s true potential When he was 15 years old, Diomande flew to Florida and started a new chapter with DME Academy alongside Todd Eason, DME’s Director of Soccer from April 2021 to January 2024 and their Athletic Director from January 2024 to October 2024. Despite not speaking any English initially, Diomande flourished in Daytona Beach for both DME and their semi-pro affiliate AS Frenzi, leading the latter to the 2023 United Premier Soccer League. Yan Diomande, former RB Leipzig player Unfortunately, he was unable to secure a permanent contract with a number of MLS and European sides before returning to Abidjan upon the expiry of his student visa. Nevertheless, Diomande would soon earn a move to Spanish side Leganés, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist in 10 appearances before then taking his talents to German outfit RB Leipzig. It didn’t take him long to justify Leipzig’s $23 million investment, racking up 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances and leading them from a 7th-place finish in 2024/25 to 3rd in 2025/26. He didn’t just make his impact at the club level, but also at the international level, debuting for the Ivory Coast and competing in the Africa Cup of Nations. And after winning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award, Diomande returned to North America and excelled at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, spearheading the Elephants to their first-ever World Cup knockout match. “[His World Cup performances were] great, and I know he had a couple of games that… I wouldn’t say they were not good games; I just didn’t think he got the touches on the ball as he did in the first game,” stated Eason in an exclusive World Soccer Talk interview. “Again, no one really knew about him. If they’re playing some of the bigger countries that have some of those players that are from the Bundesliga on them, then they knew him. But no CONMEBOL / CONCACAF team had any idea who ‘Dio’ was, and they struggled with him because they didn’t know what he was. I think from the four games, the first game vs. Ecuador gave him the biggest exposure ever, and people were like, ‘Who the heck is this guy?’ “And luckily, Ivory Coast as a whole was a very strong team as well, which helped him be successful in those games, but I think as the tournament went on, he dealt with a lot of pressure from the outside. I think there were so many interviews…everybody wanted to interview him after the first game. Everybody wanted to capture this story, and I feel like he ended up taking on a lot that was off the field that maybe made him a little bit more stressed. Or maybe he was just a little bit exhausted by what a professional player had to do off the field. I saw that as
