Chelsea have made a move to sign Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer (AFP via Getty) Chelsea are in talks to sign former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer, according to reports. On deadline day, Chelsea finally approved the £125 million sale of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City but aimed to bring in a midfield replacement before the end of the window. Xabi Alonso is an admirer of Martin Zubimendi but Chelsea’s approach for the Spanish midfielder was swiftly rejected by Arsenal. Chelsea then agreed a deal with Monaco worth €55 million (£47.1m) for Lamine Camara but the Ligue 1 side cancelled their agreement with an hour to go before the deadline. Georginio Wijnaldum won the Premier League title Liverpool in 2020 (Getty) Despite the summer transfer window closing on Tuesday, Premier League clubs are still allowed to sign players who are free agents. Wijnaldum was a key part of Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp, helping the club win the Premier League and Champions League in five seasons at Anfield. The midfielder then joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in 2021 before making the move to Saudi Arabia two years later. For Al-Ettifaq last season, Wijnaldum scored 17 goals and registered seven assists in 34 appearances. If he makes the move to Chelsea, Wijnaldum would link up with his former Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson, who joined Stamford Bridge as a free agent in August. No really, some busker strumming a guitar in the Sky Sports News studio while etc, and so on. After a near relentless onslaught of media buzzwords, hype and assorted reputable (and thoroughly disreputable) transfer insiders announcing they “understand” things, the summer transfer window is finally shut. But what’s that Football Daily can see pressed up against the glass? The out-of-joint nose of an apoplectic David Moyes. If you’d told me back in the golden era of Serie A in the 1990s that it would eventually become a dumping ground for underperforming (or past their best in the case of John Stones) Premier League players, judging by Tuesday’s front page of La Gazzetta dello Sport, then I wouldn’t have believed you. And if you’d told me in January that Donyell Malen, who scored seven goals in 35 Premier League games for Aston Villa before going on loan to Roma, would already be on 19 goals in 20 Serie A games, I definitely wouldn’t have believed you” – Noble Francis.Looks like Argentina have lined up James Maddison to replace Lionel Messi. Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro has explained why Chelsea's Deadline Day move for Lamine Camera collapsed, and how it was affected by Everton's failed move for team-mate Folarin Balogun. The Ligue 1 side had made it clear keeping the midfielder was "our priority" despite approaches by "several clubs" over the summer and Chelsea, "always testing and trying".
Liverpool are reportedly planning to replace Alexis Mac Allister with Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara after holding initial talks. The Reds seemingly didn’t make a new midfielder one of their priorities for this transfer window, but it seems plans are already in place for changes in that position next year. That’s according to a report from […] The post Contact made: Liverpool already planning transfer to replace star with 151 appearances appeared first on CaughtOffside.
On one hand, the Iliman Ndiaye is a player of superlative skill, evasive, quick and wonderfully entertaining with the ball at his feet. Ndiaye was responsible for 73 of Everton's 250 completed dribbles last season, the highest share of any Premier League player. Everton fans may also point to recent moves in the Premier League involving Manchester City, such as the sale of Savio to Tottenham for an initial £75m, as further evidence that the club should have demanded more for Ndiaye.
