Arsenal won the Community Shield – but should one player have been sent off? (Photo: Getty) Stuart Pearce claimed that one Arsenal star should have been sent off during the 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday. The Gunners fired a warning shot to their Premier League rivals in Cardiff, humiliating Enzo Maresca on his City debut to lift the first trophy of the English football season. Riccardo Calafiori opened the scoring after just 23 seconds before Kai Havertz doubled the lead and captain Martin Odegaard tapped in the third minutes after the break. It was a great game overall for Calafiori, who will be hoping this is a sign of things to come after two injury-disrupted seasons at the Emirates, but the left-back did have one very poor moment. With the score at 1-0, the Italy international challenged Abdukodir Khusanov for the ball in the box and went down, with Arsenal fans screaming for a penalty. Referee Samuel Barrott instantly blew his whistle but gave a free-kick to City and booked Calafiori for simulation, with replays showing that the 24-year-old blatantly dived. Former City player and manager Pearce, on commentary duty for talkSPORT, was left outraged by what he saw, saying: ‘Well, Khusanov went down very early, kept his feet away from it. Paris Saint-Germain are in the final stages of closing a deal with Parma for star Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, though his immediate role with the club remains uncertain. The 2026 FIFA World Cup prompted many moves in soccer. Now, Paris Saint-Germain have decided to go for a star of the competition, closing in on a deal with Parma for goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, PSG and Parma are set to seal a deal where Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki would join the French side for around $40 million (€35 million). However, Suzuki’s role with PSG is yet to be determined. It will all depend on Lucas Chevalier, who has rotated starts with Matvey Safonov. Chevalier is rumored to leave, and if he does, Suzuki would fight for the starting role against the Russian keeper. A ripple effect at PSG Chevalier, 24, is currently followed by Juventus. The Italian side see it as a top priority to bring in a new goalkeeper—specifically a young yet experienced shot-stopper who has already played in a top European league. If Chevalier stays, the alternative move involves Zion Suzuki. PSG reached an agreement for Parma’s goalkeeper to give Juventus options where the French club still secure a strategic advantage. Under this scenario, Suzuki could remain in Italy to play for Juventus on loan from PSG. The Ligue 1 side still have to determine whether Chevalier stays to fight for the starting spot or if Suzuki is the better option to compete with Safonov.
