Uncertainty about the club’s future was matched by some on the pitch in 1-1 draw with Notts CountyIf Leicester thought this season was going to be the footballing equivalent of a gap year, visiting new places and learning some life lessons before returning home, then they were mistaken. Being outfought and outperformed by Notts County, a well-organised and energetic team promoted from the fourth tier, brought the harsh reality of life to the fore on Saturday.Russell Martin’s desire to play out from the back provided the fragile foundation of a dispiriting performance for a team tipped to storm back up. Ollie Cooper charging down the ponderous Alex McCarthy before seeing the ball bounce back off the crossbar welcomed Leicester to League One within six minutes. McCarthy or the confused centre-back pairing of Caleb Okoli and Harry Souttar repeatedly gave the ball away in and around the penalty area as the team created their own problems. Things went so badly that a compilation of their slapstick defending quickly gained traction on social media. Continue reading...

Mourinho reportedly unhappy over Barça hijackCity ready to seal deal for Morocco star BouaddiManchester City have rejected an offer of £38.5m (€45m) from Barcelona for Rodri and want at least £60m before allowing Spain’s World Cup-winning captain to depart.Barcelona have emerged as Rodri’s preferred destination after talks with Real Madrid broke down this week. It is understood that the 30-year-old, who is now in the final year of his contract at City, has agreed personal terms with the Spanish champions after indicating that he would like to return to his homeland following the departure of Pep Guardiola. Transfer fee largest sum received for a sale by WSL sideSigning eclipses Olivia Smith’s £1m move to ArsenalBarcelona have signed the Brazil forward Kerolin from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee that sources say is in the region of £1.25m, which would represent the largest sum received for a sale by a Women’s Super League side. The deal is also a club-record for Barcelona, and in terms of a fee received by an English club it eclipses the £1m that Liverpool received for the sale of Olivia Smith in Arsenal in 2025 and Melvine Malard’s more recent £850,000 switch from Manchester United to Chelsea. Today’s rumours are getting out the paddling poolHaving been left behind like an unloved t-shirt by Enzo Maresca as Manchester City departed for their pre-season tour of Asia, Jack Grealish is attracting admiring glances from elsewhere. Eyeing up the England attacker’s shapely calves are Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League, who would certainly have the funds to fulfil City’s desire of slapping a big ‘SOLD’ sticker on Grealish and preparing him for international shipping. The latest highly-touted prospect set to be whisked away after an impressive short stint at Bournemouth is Rayan. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Arsenal, and Liverpool all want the Brazilian winger. The link with Andoni Iraola at Anfield appears strong, but with the 19-year-old’s release clause not said to kick in until 2027, the fee required to move him from the south coast would be significant. Although probably still less than the price of a Bradley Barcola. Continue reading...
The mercurial performance at the back was a far cry from the gaffe-prone Spurs captain we have become accustomed to seeingAs Cristian Romero readied to receive a pass 10 yards from his goalline, Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon sensed a mistake in the making. The center-back’s posture was not ideal after he took a scoot backwards to collect, facing the left sideline as his opponents lustily converged. He would only have half a second to settle a bouncing ball, shift his momentum, and find a passing lane in the rapidly closing seam between the England duo.Easier said than done on most days, but this particular Wednesday was not most days. First touch: ball settled. Second touch: right foot shunting the ball to his left. Third touch: left foot, ball coolly slotted to an awaiting Nahuel Molina. Continue reading...

Decades after the Falklands war and Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ goal, the fixture is once again being discussed as far more than a gameWhen Argentina’s national football team burst into the dressing room after beating Switzerland 3-1, they celebrated by singing The Fourth Star, the country’s unofficial World Cup anthem.“For Malvinas, for Diego,” Lionel Messi and his teammates chanted, invoking both the Falkland Islands – known as Islas Malvinas in Argentina – and their football legend Diego Maradona.
