Mikel Arteta’s defending champions maintained their perfect start to the new season with a 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday. Deeney picked Raya as the goalkeeper in his Premier League team of the week for BBC Sport after he pulled off a brilliant save to deny Estevao a Chelsea equaliser late on. Arsenal summer signing Ezri Konsa was also included after an impressive performance alongside Gabriel, with Chelsea’s dazzling front-three kept relatively quiet at the Emirates Stadium. Martin Odegaard continued his superb start to the season with another goal and earned a place in Deeney’s team alongside Arsenal’s ‘best footballer’ Havertz. Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney (Picture: Getty) Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya (Picture: Getty) Analysing Raya’s performance against Chelsea, Deeney said: ‘Huge saves, again. It’s why he’s the best goalkeeper in the league. He keeps just coming up with big moments.’ Turning his attentions to England defender Konsa, the ex-Premier League striker said: ‘Solid performance. He comes in again and just makes that massive tackle on Morgan Rogers. ‘I think he slots into what is an already incredible Arsenal team. I can see a position now that they just can’t live without him, he’ll have to play right-back when everybody comes fit and available.’ {"@context":"https:\/\/schema.org","@type":"VideoObject","name":"'It was beautiful': Arteta hails Arsenal's attack-to-defence display in win against Chelsea","contentUrl":"https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2026\/09\/07\/2593273995855020828\/480x270_MP4_2593273995855020828.mp4","description":"Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium after Morgan Rogers stunned home fans into silence with a volleyed goal 77 seconds into the game.","duration":"T5M27S","height":270,"thumbnailUrl":"https:\/\/i.dailymail.com\/1s\/2026\/09\/07\/07\/111091359-0-image-a-53_1788761962819.jpg","uploadDate":"2026-09-07T07:17:08+0100","width":480} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Up Next Previous Page Next Page window.addEventListener('metroVideo:relatedVideosCarouselLoaded', function(data) { if (typeof(data.detail) === 'undefined' || typeof(data.detail.carousel) === 'undefined' || typeof(data.detail.carousel.el_) === 'undefined') { return; } var player = data.detail.carousel.el_; var container = player.closest('.metro-video-player'); var placeholder = container.querySelector('.metro-video-player__up-next-placeholder'); if (placeholder) { container.removeChild(placeholder); container.classList.add('metro-video-player--related-videos-loaded'); } }); On Odegaard, Deeney added: ‘Captain, leader and a massive winner. "Winning our first game of the season was very important and I'm happy to be on the scoresheet twice," Isak said.
Alexander Isak scored twice early on but Gary O'Neil's side did not fold and showed fight to work their way back into the game and create chances. "It's even harder when it's again Liverpool and a top side like that," Diop told BBC Radio Suffolk.
