Rangers midfielder Paul Nsio has joined St Mirren on a season-long loan, with Buddies manager Craig McLeish saying the 20-year-old brings the "calibre, physical attributes and athleticism" lacking in their own academy at present. London-born Nsio spent last season on loan to Raith Rovers and helped the Kirkcaldy side win the Challenge Cup in April, making 31 appearances and being voted the club's young player of the year.
Former midfielder Ryan Flynn says League Cup holders St Mirren have been "punished" for failing to to beat Dunfermline in their final group stage game with a tough last 16 draw at Rangers. Before Sunday's game against the Pars, Craig McLeish's side had won all three of their group stage matches against Dumbarton, Cove Rangers and East Kilbride but lost 1-0 to Dunfermline on Sunday after Chris Kane converted a late penalty.
Craig McLeish has vowed that other teams are going to have "to claw" the Scottish League Cup trophy off St Mirren after his holders were given the "most difficult draw" away to Rangers in the last 16. The Paisley side lost 1-0 at home to Dunfermline Athletic in their final group-stage game, the late penalty meaning St Mirren failed to finish with enough points to be one of the seeded teams in the draw despite still topping their section. "Frustrated by the ending of it," manager McLeish told BBC Scotland.
St Mirren have agreed a new one-year deal with a one-year option with striker Jonah Ayunga even though he will likely be absent with his ACL injury until the new year. Ayunga hasn't featured for the Buddies since a 2-0 defeat at home to Livingston 25 April 2025 during which he had to be carried off on a stretcher but before then made 32 appearances and scored twice in the club's historic League Cup victory over Celtic in December. "We wanted to look after him," manager Craig McLeish said.
St Mirren manager Craig McLeish is excited for the first competitive home match of the season after a productive start to the Premier Sports Cup. The Buddies have won 4-0 at both Dumbarton and Cove Rangers in the competition's group stage and now host East Kilbride as they try to make it three successive victories. League 1 East Kilbride - promoted in the past two seasons - have two wins from their three outings so far.
Stevie Mallan is in St Mirren's "thoughts", says manager Craig McLeish after the midfielder featured as a trialist substitute against Cove Rangers. Midfielder Mallan, 30, started his career at St Mirren and subsequently played for Barnsley, Hibernian, Yeni Malatyaspor, Salford City and St Johnstone. "Right now, he's a trialist," McLeish said following Saturday's 4-0 Premier Sports Cup Group C win at Cove.
Craig McLeish's chances of success with St Mirren will depend on the Paisley club recruiting players capable of playing the young manager's preferred system, suggests former Buddies midfielder Ryan Flynn. McLeish took charge in March after Stephen Robinson moved to Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen. "He is very assertive about how he wants to play," Flynn told the Scottish Football Podcast as he predicted that St Mirren would avoid another relegation battle while not challenging for the top six.
Declan John "was playing through a painful injury and put off his surgery" last season to help St Mirren avoid relegation, manager Craig McLeish has revealed as the left-back was rewarded with an extra year on his contract. The 30-year-old Welshman, who initially joined on a short-term deal in November 2024, is now contracted to the Scottish Premiership club until summer 2028. McLeish described it as "a fantastic piece of business" to extend his stay further.
Craig McLeish emerged as the "outstanding candidate" for the manager's job after a "number of external candidates" were assessed, say St Mirren. The Buddies have appointed McLeish - who secured top-flight survival in his interim tenure last season - on a three-year contract following a "thorough, data-driven recruitment process that aligned with the club's football strategy on and off the pitch".
Craig McLeish has urged frustrated fans to back his St Mirren players in their fight to avoid relegation. Saturday's 3-0 home defeat to Kilmarnock leaves the Paisley side in the play-off spot, four points behind the the Rugby Park outfit with two Scottish Premiership fixtures remaining. Interim manager McLeish has lost four successive league matches and said he was "embarrassed" by the performance against Kilmarnock, which drew ire from the home stands.
St Mirren have played and won one cup final this season and came close(ish) to reaching another. Now they have three 'cup finals' left in the league - and five if things don't go to plan and they end up in a play-off for Premiership survival. A must-win game according to St Mirren manager Craig McLeish and few would disagree.
