H. Wright news
Wright's World Cup over before it even began
Haji Wright's disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign has come to an end following the United States defeat to Belgium in the last 16. Wright featured in two of USA's five matches and played for a combined total of just two minutes, coming on as a last-minute substitute against Australia and Belgium. Following a Championship title winning campaign - in which Wright scored 17 times - he touched the ball just twice at the World Cup.
Wright's international involvement 'a massive headscratcher'
Haji Wright's lack of international minutes in the build up to and at the World Cup is "baffling", says BBC Radio CWR's Rob Gurney. The United States international featured 40 times for Frank Lampard's Championship-winning side in 2025-26, scoring 17 goals and contributing one assist. "Haji Wright didn't get a single minute in the United States v Paraguay game," Gurney said.
Coventry could earn World Cup fees
Coventry City could be set to earn hundreds of thousands of pounds through Fifa World Cup payouts due to two squad members representing their nations at this summer's tournament. Haji Wright is set to represent hosts United States and Brandon Thomas-Asante has been called up by Ghana.
