Deadline day may have left Everton fans feeling disillusioned, but the side is four games into the season and remains unbeaten, nine goals scored, including two in added time to secure a point. After what was a chaotic close to the transfer window, even by the Toffees' own standards, the performance against Manchester United ironically saw the summer signings playing a key role in the fight. Jack Grealish and Hayden Hackney came on from the bench to turn the game on its head, Tyrique George scored to equalise before the visitors went back in front, and it was Ainsley Maitland-Niles with a stunning strike to secure the draw in the final few seconds.

Fulham need a win, Tottenham show some spirit and Jack Grealish offers Everton much-needed energyWith 25 minutes to go against Manchester United, the Everton supporters had something to roar about as Jack Grealish made his return after rejoining on loan. The attacking midfielder remains universally popular thanks to his desire to entertain, getting the hosts back on their feet by creating dangerous situations within seconds of his arrival. Everton were limited in the final third for long periods as Thierno Barry sat on the periphery. If David Moyes is to keep his side pushing for a top-half finish, he will need Grealish to be a creative focal point. Will Unwin Continue reading...

The build-up to this match was dominated by conversations about who Everton failed to sign in the transfer window. Since their last league match - a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth eight days ago - they had sold attackers Iliman N'Diaye and Beto, while Nathan Patterson joined Torino. When on-loan Jack Grealish - once the most expensive British player of all time - took to the touchline on his return to the club, he appeared to be Everton's most likely route back into the game.

The Red Devils looked on course for a second consecutive win when Benjamin Sesko struck with just three minutes remaining, powering a header beyond Jodran Pickford following a superb run and cross from the overlapping Luke Shaw. United’s long-serving full-back endured a difficult start to the new season when he struggled badly in a 2-0 opening weekend defeat against newly promoted Hull City. Michael Carrick, however, has maintained his faith in the left-back despite facing criticism for failing to sign another left-back during the closing stages of the transfer window. Shaw repaid his manager’s confidence with a superb all-round display against the Toffees, providing a threat in attack and coming close to sealing all three points with a brilliant late block. Everton’s pressure ultimately told in injury-time when debutant Ainsley Maitland-Niles equalised with a stunning strike from distance, but former Everton winger Nevin was impressed with a performance from Shaw that rolled back the years. ‘Luke Shaw should be delighted with his work,’ Nevin told the BBC. ‘The reaction from Shaw was superb. He can go home happy with his effects today. Luke Shaw was among Man Utd’s best players in their draw against Everton (Credits: Action Images via Reuters) ‘Benjamin Sesko, very well done. Luke Shaw down the left-hand-side has been phenomenal today. ‘Tyrique George did not manage to go with him, and Shaw gets an easy cross in. George knows it was his man that left him.’ A point maintained Everton’s unbeaten start to the season which has come amid serious unrest among a fanbase which has voiced its dissatisfaction with at an uninspiring transfer window. They will battle, and they will work with each other. ‘In the end, there are going to be injuries. Can you imagine if Jack Grealish picks up another injury? ‘He came on and completely changed the game.’ Comment now Comments Add Metro as a Preferred Source on Google Add as preferred source
Al-Hilal signed Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal earlier this week (Photo: Al-Hilal/Twitter) Arsenal have been told they should have beaten Manchester City to the signing of a £65million on deadline day, who would have ‘hit the ground running’ at the Emirates. It was known from the start of the summer that Mikel Arteta was looking to improve his options on the left-flank but his side are now arguably even weaker in that position. Christos Tzolis was signed to replace Leandro Trossard but the Gunners failed to bring in another forward before deadline day and have since allowed Gabriel Martinelli to join Al-Hilal for £60million. That’s despite the Premier League champions pursuing deals for several huge stars over the summer, namely Morgan Rogers, Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez. All three would have set Arsenal back nine-figures, with Rogers joining rivals Chelsea for £117m. But former Arsenal academy star and England international Jay Bothroyd believes a relatively cheaper option would have been the perfect signing – but the player has now joined the Citizens. Arsenal should have gone for [Iliman] Ndiaye early doors,’ the former Premier League striker said on Sky Sports News. Arsenal were linked with Iliman Ndiaye but the Everton star joined Man City on deadline day (Photo: Getty) ‘Yes, we went for Vinicius Junior who’s arguably the best left-winger in the world, but when you look at the value for money for Ndiaye, I feel like £65million is an absolute steal. ‘Man City, for me, had the best window. They got in top, top players straight away that can come in, hit the ground running. And they’ve got depth now. ‘You got [Jeremy] Doku and Ndiaye on that left-hand side. You got Phil Foden and Antoine Semenyo on the right. You got Rayan Cherki [in attacking midfield], Foden can play in that role as well. Christos Tzolis is now the only natural left-winger at Arsenal (Photo: Getty) ‘They’ve got so much depth going forward now. It was a great signing.’ Ndiaye had been tenuously linked with Arsenal over the summer following two strong seasons at Everton, but in the final week of the transfer window, it seemed Tottenham had won the race for his signature. That moved collapsed however and Enzo Maresca quickly swooped in to lure the Senegal international to the Etihad, with Jack Grealish moving in the opposite direction. Eberechi Eze is expected to feature more on the left this season (Photo: Getty) ‘As an Arsenal fan, we didn’t improve that left-hand side and I feel like that’s one place we definitely needed to,’ Bothroyd added. ‘We got Tzolis there. Yes, he’s started well, but he’s a young, inexperienced player that doesn’t know the Premier League. ‘Having Ndiaye… He would be first choice. He would hit the ground running and it would bring real balance to that Arsenal side.’ Tzolis, a £34m arrival from Club Brugge, recorded three assists in his first two Arsenal games but was hooked at half-time against Aston Villa last Monday following a very poor performance. While not their preferred position, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke can operate on the left-wing and it will be interesting to see who Arteta picks on Sunday when they face Chelsea at the Emirates.
