The scoreline was not a true reflection of Ipswich’s performance, with Gary O’Neil’s team demonstrating much energy and spirit throughout the match. The Tractor Boys took the lead in the 29th minute through Leif Davis, who was set up my Abdul Fatawu after the righ-twinger left Luke Shaw for dust. Shaw’s performances this season have come under heavy scrutiny, especially with the Red Devils looking to sign a new left-back before transfer deadline day on Tuesday, And the England international took full responsibility for the opener, telling Sky Sports: ‘A really important win. We knew how important it was to win today. ‘I am a bit disappointed and angry with myself for the first goal. Extremely happy with the team in the second half, it was really good. The 31-year-old is the only natural left-back at Old Trafford and there is fear United will not sign another this summer. ‘I think we’ve done some fantastic business and we’ve done it very well with the money we’ve spent,’ Carrick told BBC Sport post-match. ‘We’re making the most of the situation that we have.
