Former Rangers striker Rory Loy was bemused by Derek McInnes' decision to not start with two up front in the season-opening 1-1 draw at Dundee United. Captain Lawrence Shankland was deployed behind lone striker Ryan Naderi, who made way for Youssef Chermiti in the second half. "The one thing I just could not quite believe is that he didn't start with two strikers," Loy told the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast.
Ryan Naderi says Derek McInnes' experience as a former Rangers player will be beneficial to the current squad in understanding the demands at the club. McInnes played at Ibrox between 1995 and 2000, and after several years of being linked with a return as manager, finally left Hearts to take over from Danny Rohl last month. Naderi said he welcomes the increased competition for starting striker berths following the arrival of Lawrence Shankland from Hearts, but stressed he is "not here to sit on the bench".
Chermiti and Naderi often partnered each other in attack last season, with Shankland set to join up with Rangers' squad soon after having represented Scotland at the World Cup. "In Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi, I think it's two perfect foils for Lawrence Shankland," former Rangers midfielder Halliday told the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast.
