I don’t think any manager is happy, you always more more, more players and help for your team on the pitch. ‘The back line I don’t think is the strongest. Harry Maguire is probably the first-choice centre-back, then you’ve got Martinez who has got his injury problems, Heaven, who has got a lot of potential and I really like but it is potential and we’ve not seen enough of him. Mainoo broke through and excelled under Erik ten Hag, before falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim and almost leaving his boyhood club. Carrick’s arrival saw Mainoo restored to the first team and enjoy a positive end to the season, which culminated in the Englishman being named in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup. The Red Devils have bolstered their midfield ranks significantly over the summer, with Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba arriving to provide competition for Mainoo.
