Sign up now! Sign up now! Sign up now? Sign up now!You have to hand it to Gianni Infantino, his timing was impeccable. After the relative on-field success of the Geopolitics World Cup, Fifa’s omnipresent overlord knew he had to strike while the iron was hot. There would be a small gap in the news cycle. Domestic seasons around the world would be starting soon and there is always transfer news to dominate column inches and air time. But Gianni would not be denied. It was time to announce his grand plan. People like the World Cup? Great! Then why not sell stakes in the World Cup to rich private investors and make Fifa some more cash – genius! However, he managed to get his timing all wrong, allowing the brave boys from Uefa and Concacaf to take action, the former threatening to boycott all Fifa competitions until the plans are ditched.I have no problem with Gianni Infantino seeking to sell the commercial rights for the next World Cup finals for $20bn or more. This is the biggest sporting competition and deserves to raise as much revenue as possible from sponsors. That he can offer all the member countries upwards of $30m each would be a godsend for many smaller associations. What I do expect for the good of the game and for spectators of all ages is that the broadcasting of all matches remains free to air and doesn’t end up behind expensive paywalls. It’s bad enough in the UK that the Premier League, Football League, Prem Rugby and all first-class cricket matches are now behind paywalls and that access to actual matches is priced well beyond the average spectator’s ability to pay. How are fans, particularly those who are young and/or from poorer households, going to be able to afford to see matches? Fifa, Uefa and the FA have a duty to bring their sport to the widest audience possible at reasonable entrance prices at stadiums or for free on television. Rant over” – Tim Leech.Amid all the speculation over the demise of Eddie Howe at Newcastle (yesterday’s Football Daily), surely one look at that new kit would’ve been enough to see off anyone with a modicum of taste. He departs with dignity intact” – Steve Bennett. Continue reading...
Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi has suffered a foot injury which is set to rule him out for three to four months and Alexander Smith, senior reporter at the Daily Echo, believes he will be "a big miss" for the side. Kroupi scored 13 goals in 33 Premier League appearances during his debut campaign with the Cherries.
Everything was looking rosy for Howe at St James’ Park until Alexander Isak’s departure led to rushed signings and a messy seasonLast September, David Hopkinson, just installed as Newcastle’s chief executive, perched on a stool at a downstairs corner table in Shearer’s Bar at St James’ Park and between sips of zero alcohol lager, likened Eddie Howe to Bruce Springsteen. According to Hopkinson, Newcastle’s manager was “the Boss” and “the talent”. He conjured up an imaginary scene involving Springsteen asking for M&M’s before a concert and being duly supplied with a dressing room overflowing with the brightly coloured confectionery. The same principle, he said, would apply to “Eddie”, who would e furnished with “whatever he wants”.Six months later, things had changed. In late March, Hopkinson sat around a heavy wooden table in a St James’ Park boardroom and, between sips of coffee, said he did not “have a stance on the manager’s future”. What he could tell assembled reporters was that a recent home defeat by Sunderland “hurt”. It “resonated” and was being taken “seriously”. Given that Newcastle had just lost a Champions League tie 8-3 to Barcelona on aggregate and were en route to finishing 12th in the Premier League, Howe admitted to “sleepless nights” before a summit with the club’s majority Saudi Arabian ownership at Matfen Hall hotel in Northumberland the following month. Harvey Elliott's season-long loan at Aston Villa did not go to plan, and he is now back at Liverpool, where he could get a second chance. The post Elliott’s Liverpool future remains up in the air after ‘very tough’ Villa loan appeared first on SoccerNews.
When Elliot Anderson completed his £116m move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City last week, there was a sense of deja vu. It is not the first time City has signed one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League fresh from an impressive first international tournament with England. A similar story unfolded in 2022 when Kalvin Phillips left his boyhood club, Leeds United, to join City on a six-year deal.
Liverpool beat Wrexham 1-0 in their second pre-season match in New York and new boss Andoni Iraola was full of praise for young midfielder Trey Nyoni. The 19-year-old played the whole first half before being substituted for Curtis Jones. Nyoni made six appearances in the Premier League last season, all as a substitute.
Dastan Satpaev is attempting to become the first Kazakh player to appear in a Premier League match. Quick, sharp in the box and relatively small in stature, Satpaev is stylistically often compared to former Argentina and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero. "I knew Dastan from Almaty," added Alonso, who faced the player with his former club Real Madrid last season.
Not being an undisputed starter under Luis Enrique, Bradley Barcola seems determined to leave PSG towards the Premier League. After reaching a personal agreement with Liverpool, the English side is reportedly ready to begin negotiations over his transfer. Bradley Barcola has managed to be part of PSG’s best era, winning two consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. However, Désiré Doué has taken his starting spot in Luis Enrique’s side, so he seems determined to leave the team for the Premier League. Following this, Liverpool have reportedly reached a personal agreement with the 23-year-old star and is ready to begin negotiations with the French side. According to Ben Jacobs from talkSPORT, via X, Liverpool have Bradley Barcola as their main target and has reached a personal agreement with the player. After this, they have decided to pursue negotiations directly with PSG, which values the player at €170M. However, they consider this valuation to be far above reality. Therefore, they are closer to paying €85-100M, counting on the player’s pressure in their favor. Throughout the 2025-26 season, Barcola managed to accumulate 2,971 minutes, in which he scored 13 goals and provided 7 assists. Even though he was not usually a starter in the Champions League, he was a regular in Ligue 1, something essential for Luis Enrique. However, he has the great opportunity to become a central figure at Liverpool, replacing Mohamed Salah on the right or left wing. Bradley Barcola has a contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2028 and has decided not to renew it. Because of this, they risk having to sell the French star for a lower value in 2027, as he would have only one year left on his contract. With this in mind, Liverpool are in prime position to negotiate his transfer for a significant fee, but much lower than the initial €170M valuation, as Barcola is pushing to be a star at the English side. Bradley Barcola of PSG attempts to shoot past David Raya of Arsenal. Bradley Barcola would be ideal solution for Liverpool’s wingers Liverpool are living through one of the most important rebuilds of the recent era. After parting ways with Arne Slot and letting Mohamed Salah leave, they have decided to give Andoni Iraola the keys to the team. Despite already signing Victor Muñoz for the left wing, they still need a world-class right winger. With this in mind, Bradley Barcola would be the preferred option to become the central figure of the attack. Without Salah on the right wing, the Reds only have Federico Chiesa as a natural profile, along with Harvey Elliott. Therefore, Barcola would arrive as an undisputed starter on the right wing, as his dribbling, change of pace, and goalscoring ability are superior to those of his teammates. In addition, he comes from winning two consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, giving the Reds a winning mentality as they go through a rebuild.

Referees’ body stands by diversity initiativesWebb believes diverse talent pool will ‘raise standards’Howard Webb, England’s chief refereeing officer, has vowed to continue increasing the talent pool from under-represented communities in English football’s officiating pathway, rejecting the wider backlash against diversity initiatives.Addressing that historic under-representation has prompted a new direction. In June, the newly named Professional Referees’ Body (Pro Ref), formerly called Professional Game Match Officials, announced that Select Group 1, 2 and its supplementary list had been merged into a new, single Professional Referee Group in the men’s professional game and will largely service the Premier League and the Championship from the start of the 2026-27 season. Pro Ref said it would create flexibility in appointments and help to recognise a wider variety of talented match officials as part of the organisation’s new direction. Continue reading...
A growing connection with fans has helped make the women’s team by far the most enjoyable part of supporting SpursThe exciting football played by Tottenham’s women last season provided a much-needed antidote to the dreadful men’s team, who not only flirted with relegation, but took it out on a dinner date, looked deep into its eyes and started to plan a future together.Fortunately, that relationship fizzled out and fans were able to “celebrate” at the end of the season as Premier League status was secured. Meanwhile, Spurs achieved their highest points tally in the Women’s Super League. Highlights included a 7-2 goal‑fest against Aston Villa, a mind-bending FA Cup penalty shootout win against London City Lionesses (where the first 17 penalties were successfully slotted home) and a stream of wonder goals including a 40-yard screamer from Cathinka Tandberg. Today’s rumours are back with a vengeanceLike baggy trousers, small sunglasses and leopard print, transfer rumours are back in a big way. And there can be no doubting the transfer ambition of the Premier League champions, Arsenal, who are eyeing up either Vinícius Júnior or Bradley Barcola as a deluxe Leandro Trossard replacement. One sticking point for the Gunners is the former’s apparent desire to stay put at Real Madrid, while Liverpool appear to be favourites for Barcola if they can muster the £145m Paris Saint-Germain are demanding for their fourth-best forward. The path may become clear for Vinícius to leave the Bernabéu, however, with the club closing in on a deal for the Ivorian World Cup sensation Yan Diomande. Perennial prospect Endrick has also been touted for a move away from Madrid this summer. Continue reading...
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson hailed a "great week" in Tampa as his side secured another pre-season win over Premier League opposition by beating Leeds 3-2. After the win over Manchester United last week, the Welsh side continued their summer form as Sam Smith's late winner proved enough against a team featuring a host of Wales internationals. The Welsh side led after just 31 seconds as Kieffer Moore fired a low shot home.
