While the traditional curtain-raiser is viewed by some as little more than a glorified friendly, both teams will nevertheless be keen to head into the new campaign with a dose of positivity. But perhaps surprisingly, victory in the annual game does not historically translate to success in the Premier League season ahead. Of the past 15 teams to have won the Community Shield, only one side has gone on to win the league title at the end of that season. Lewis-Skelly had a frustrating start to the previous campaign but broke into the team at the business end of the season, becoming the second-youngest Englishman to start a Champions League final when the Gunners lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties. However, despite his increased importance to Mikel Arteta, Arsenal are believed to be open to offers after signing Bruno Guimaraes in a £75million deal from Newcastle United.
